Overview: The Calendar Page

Learn how to view, organize, filter, and manage your team’s scheduled events from the Calendar page.

Introduction

The Calendar page in Homeworks gives you a visual view of your team’s scheduled work by day, week, or month. You can use filters, sorting, grouping, budgeted hours, and bulk actions to organize your schedule and manage events directly from the calendar.

Step 1: Open the Calendar Page

  1. From your Homeworks dashboard, go to Schedule > Calendar.

  2. Choose whether you want to view your schedule by Day, Week, or Month.

Use the back and forward arrows to move between date ranges, or select Today to return to the current date.

You can also switch between the calendar grid and list view using the calendar and list icons.

Step 2: Use the Calendar Side Rail

Expand the side rail on the left side of the Calendar page to access additional tools for organizing your schedule.

The side rail includes:

  • A mini month calendar for quickly navigating to another date.

  • Sort events options.

  • Event type coloring and grouping controls.

  • Crew coloring and grouping controls.

  • Employee coloring and grouping controls.

Use the checkboxes under event types, crews, and employees to quickly show or hide their events from the calendar.

You can collapse the side rail when you want more space for your schedule.

Sort your events

By default, Homeworks displays untimed events first, followed by timed events from earliest to latest.

You can also sort events by:

  • Dispatch order

  • Revenue, high to low or low to high

  • Budgeted hours, high to low or low to high

  • Customer, A–Z

  • Status, from Open to Complete

Manually dragging events to reorder them can override the selected sort for that day.

Color your calendar

Use Color by to make events easier to identify visually.

You can color events by:

  • Event type

  • Crew

  • Employee

If an event has a custom color, that color overrides the default calendar coloring.

Group your events

Use Group by to divide each day's events into labeled sections.

You can group events by:

  • Crew

  • Employee

  • Event type

  • Service

When grouping is enabled, you can control both the order of your groups and how events are sorted within each group.

Step 3: Filter or Search for Events

Use the filters at the top of the Calendar page to control which events appear.

You can filter by:

  • Status

  • Recurring

  • Invoice

  • On Site

  • Tracked Time

  • Customer

  • Item/Service

  • Tag

Filters determine which events appear on your calendar.

Search for an event

Click the Search icon to expand the search field. Use search to find events by text, including the event title or customer.

Show the waitlist

Select the Waitlist hourglass icon to show or hide your waitlisted events. The badge on the icon shows the number of events currently on the waitlist.

Step 4: Customize What Appears on Event Cards

Select the Show/hide details icon to choose what information appears directly on your event cards.

You can show or hide:

  • Location

  • Customer phone

  • Event type

  • Budgeted hours

  • Tracked time

  • Invoiceable

  • Crew / employee

  • On site

  • Last service date

  • Past due alert

  • Dispatch notes

  • Visit notes

  • Media

Your card settings apply across the Day, Week, and Month views, as well as on mobile.

⚠️ Card View options and filters work differently. Card View options control the information displayed on each event card. Filters control which events appear on the calendar. For example, Tracked time can be displayed on a card and also used as a filter.

Step 5: View Budgeted Hours and Team Capacity

The Calendar page helps you compare scheduled budgeted hours with your team's available capacity.

Your calendar displays your used and available budgeted hours for the selected Day, Week, or Month range.

In Week view, each day also includes its own budgeted-hours indicator.

View a day's capacity

Click a day's budgeted-hours indicator to see more information about your team for that day, including:

  • Employees and crews who are scheduled.

  • Employees and crews who are not scheduled.

  • Budgeted hours by person.

  • Total available capacity.

You can also use the budgeted-hours rollup to see how your scheduled hours are divided between Single, Recurring, and Other work.

Step 6: Open and Manage an Event

Click an event card to open its full-height Work View panel on the right side of the screen.

From the Work View, you can review and update the event's information. Clicking another event on the calendar switches the panel to that event.

You can also manage events directly from the calendar by:

  • Moving an event to another day.

  • Reordering events within the same day.

  • Completing or reopening an event.

  • Deleting an event.

Move or reorder an event

Drag an event to another day to reschedule it.

If you drag a recurring event, Homeworks will prompt you to either move just this one event, or edit the recurring series to change following events.

Step 7: Select Multiple Events and Use Bulk Actions

You can select multiple events when you need to update several items at once.

Use Cmd, Ctrl, or Shift while clicking events to add or remove events from your selection. You can also click and drag across empty calendar space to select multiple events.

You can also use Select all or Deselect all in a day's header after an event has been selected to quickly update your selection for that day.

Available bulk actions

After selecting one or more events, you can:

  • Set status – Mark events as Open, Skipped, or Complete.

  • Assign – Assign selected events to an employee or crew.

  • Unassign – Remove assignments from selected events.

  • Reschedule – Move selected events to another date.

  • Duplicate – Create copies of the selected events.

  • Print – Generate printable event information.

  • Export – Export the selected events.

  • Delete – Permanently delete the selected events.

You can also drag a group of selected events to another day to reschedule them together.

Step 8: Create a New Event

To add work directly from your calendar:

  1. Hover over the header for the day where you want to schedule the event.

  2. Click the + button.

  3. Enter the event details and save your event.

Step 9: Manage Non-Working Days

Days configured as non-working days can automatically collapse to give you more room for scheduled work.

Your working days are based on Settings > Preferences > Scheduler > Event/Visit Days.

If you need to schedule work on a collapsed non-working day, click the collapsed day to expand it. You can then add events as usual.

Use filters, Color by, and Group by together to make busy schedules easier to scan. For example, filter the calendar to a specific crew, color events by event type, and group them by service to quickly understand what that crew has scheduled.

For managing a larger number of events in a table-style view, see Overview: The All Events Page.
