Homeworks MCP: Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Your AI assistant not connecting or returning errors? Start here.

Your AI assistant can't find or connect to Homeworks

Check that the connector URL is entered exactly as:

<https://api.home.works/mcp>

Your AI assistant says your session has expired or you need to reconnect

Your authorization token has expired. Remove the Homeworks connector from your AI assistant's settings and add it again — the re-auth takes about 30 seconds.

Your AI assistant returns data but it looks wrong or outdated

Your AI assistant pulls live data from Homeworks each time you ask. If something looks off:

  • Check that you’re looking at the right account (if you have multiple)

  • Try rephrasing — add a date range or customer name to narrow the results

  • If data is genuinely incorrect in Homeworks, your AI assistant will reflect that

Your AI assistant says it doesn't have access to something

Some features require Enterprise access. If you’re on Growth, your one-month trial window may have ended. Check your plan under Homeworks account settings, or contact Customer Success.

Some things aren’t available yet regardless of plan — see Known Limitations & What's Coming.

Your AI assistant connects but returns empty results

This usually means the data you’re asking about doesn’t exist, or the date range returned nothing. Try a broader question:

“Show me any jobs from the last 30 days.”

Something else is wrong

Contact Homeworks support and include: what you asked your AI assistant, what it replied, and the time it happened. That's usually enough to track it down.

My AI assistant is asking permission to run a query — is that normal?

Yes, completely expected. When you ask your AI assistant a question for the first time, it may show a permission prompt. For example, in Claude it looks like:

💡 “Claude wants to use Execute GraphQL Query from Homeworks Production.”

This is how your AI assistant accesses your live Homeworks data — it runs a query behind the scenes each time you ask something. Click Always allow so it doesn’t ask every time.

  • Always allow — your AI assistant will ask permission once and then proceed automatically

  • Allow once — your AI assistant will ask again next time

  • Deny — your AI assistant won't be able to retrieve your data

If you accidentally clicked Deny, remove and re-add the Homeworks connector in your AI assistant’s settings to reset the permission.
