When moving from another CRM to Homeworks, it’s important to export the right information so you don’t lose valuable customer, property, or financial data. This guide shows you what to gather before starting your import.
White Glove Importing
When you sign up for a paid Homeworks plan, you receive access to a completely free onboarding program designed to help you get your account configured, import your data, and prepare your team to run your business in Homeworks from day one.
Our team is available to import your data, at no extra cost. After you attend your importing call and provide us your .csv file, our estimated turnaround is 24 hours.
Self-Service Importing
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, you can learn more about how to import your data from your previous CRM into Homeworks below.
Step 1: Export Your Core Records
The most important records to bring into Homeworks are:
Customers – Names, contact details, billing addresses.
Properties – Service addresses, customer ownership, property size.
Items/Services – Products, services, or offerings you track and sell.
Expenses – Costs, dates, and categories.
Important: Export these in a spreadsheet or CSV format, as Homeworks supports CSV imports.
Step 2: Check Data Quality
Before importing into Homeworks, review your files:
Remove duplicate customers or properties.
Standardize formats (e.g., phone numbers, addresses).
Ensure required fields (like customer name or property address) are not blank.
Example: A customer record missing an email address can still import, but you may want to add it later for email capabilities.
Step 3: Prepare for Import
Once your data is clean:
Log into Homeworks.
Go to Settings > CSV Imports.
Upload your CSV files for each data type.
Note: If you’re migrating from a system with more fields than Homeworks, some custom fields may not map directly. You can create Custom Fields in Homeworks before importing.
That is how you successfully import your .csv files from your previous CRM to Homeworks. If you have any more questions about it that we didn't cover here, send a message to the support team and we will gladly assist you!
