Importing Customers into Homeworks

Introduction

You can bulk import customers into Homeworks by uploading a CSV file. This helps you get started faster and ensures all of your existing contacts are organized in one place.


Step 1: Open the Import Tool

  1. Click the CSV Imports tab in the bottom-left corner of your Homeworks screen.

  2. Click Import Customers.

Step 2: Download the Sample CSV

  • Click Download Sample CSV File to see the required format.

  • Fill in your customer details in this template (first name, last name, email, phone, etc.).

Note: Using the sample file helps ensure your data matches Homeworks' import fields.

Step 3: Upload Your CSV File

  1. Click to Select File to Import.

  2. Choose your file and upload it.

Step 4: Assign Address to the Properties

  • Use the checkbox options to choose how you’d like to assign addresses to the properties.

    1. Create properties for each customer from the property address.
    2. Create properties for each customer from the billing address.
    3. Create two properties for each customer using both the billing address and the property address.
    4. Do not create properties for the customers imported.

Step 5: Check For Duplications

  • Use check boxes for existing customers and avoid creating duplicates if a customer already exists with the same name or email.

  • Check first box to choose NOT to duplicate names.

    • Accounts with the same name will be merged into one profile.

  • Check second box to choose NOT to duplicate email address.

    • Accounts with the same email address will be merged into one profile.

  • Check First & Second to chose NOT to duplicate names & email address.

    • Accounts with a matching name and email will be merged into one profile.

Step 6: Confirm Your Mapped Columns

  • If mapping looks incorrect, follow steps below to correct...

  • Use the dropdowns to map your file’s columns to Homeworks' fields.

    • Example: For your “First Name” column, select Customer First Name.

    • For your “Email” column, select Email.

  • Continue until all relevant fields are mapped.  

Note: If you would like to import customer fields that Homeworks doesn't natively track, you can create a customer custom field under Resources > Custom Fields, and it will appear in the mapping dropdowns!

Step 7: Complete the Import

  1. Click Start Import.

  2. If successful, you’ll see a confirmation message.

  3. View your newly imported customers by going to the Customers tab.

Note: Skipped entries either indicate the customer data has been merged with a matching profile or ignored.
