Setup Guide: PayPal

Updated over 2 months ago

Introduction

You can connect your PayPal account to Copilot so customers can pay invoices directly through PayPal. Setup only takes a few minutes.

Important: PayPal has several limitations compared to Stripe.

  • Customers cannot save payment methods on file with PayPal.

  • Payments can only be made for invoices.

  • Customers cannot pay deposits on estimates or add credit to their account.

  • Since no payment methods are saved, businesses cannot charge customers automatically through PayPal.

👉 We recommend using PayPal as an additional option alongside Stripe, not as a replacement. Stripe offers much more functionality, including saving payment methods, auto-charging, and deposits.

Step 1: Open Online Payments Settings

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of your screen.

  2. Select Set Up and Manage Online Payments.

Step 2: Enable PayPal

  1. On the Online Payments page, click Enable PayPal.

  2. Enter the email address associated with your PayPal account.

  3. Save your changes.

Step 3: Configure Processing Fees

For PayPal, you can choose to:

  • Add no fee

  • Apply a flat fee (added to each invoice when customers pay online)

Step 4: Manage or Disable PayPal

  • Once connected, you’ll see the option to disable or edit PayPal from the same settings page.
