Connect ChatGPT to Homeworks

Step-by-step setup for connecting ChatGPT to Homeworks using a custom app in ChatGPT Developer Mode.

These steps use the ChatGPT web app.

ℹ️ ChatGPT’s labels may vary by account or workspace. The area used to manage custom MCP connections may appear as Plugins or Apps.

What you’ll need

  • A Homeworks account (Enterprise, or Growth with your trial window active)

  • A ChatGPT account with access to Developer Mode and custom apps

  • The Homeworks MCP server URL: https://api.home.works/mcp

Step 1: Turn on Developer Mode

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings.

  2. Open Plugins.

  3. Scroll to Developer Mode and turn it on.

Step 2: Create the Homeworks app

  1. Close Settings and open the main Plugins page.

  2. Click Create to add your own app.

  3. Enter the following MCP server URL:

<https://api.home.works/mcp>

  1. Set Authentication to OAuth.

  2. If prompted for a name, enter Homeworks.

  3. Agree to the terms and click Create.

ℹ️ If Homeworks has already been created for your account, ChatGPT may not let you create it again. Select the existing Homeworks app and click Install plugin instead.

Step 3: Sign in to Homeworks

ChatGPT will redirect you to Homeworks. Sign in with your Homeworks account and approve the connection. After authorization, you’ll be returned to ChatGPT.

Step 4: Test the connection

Open a ChatGPT conversation and ask:

Show me my 5 most recent customers.

You can also try:

Do I have any pending estimates?

If ChatGPT retrieves your Homeworks data, the connection is working.

To disconnect or reconnect

Open the Plugins page, select Homeworks, and remove or reinstall the app. Removing it may require you to sign in again the next time you connect.
