Creating Leads and Customers

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Introduction

In Copilot, leads and customers are the same—only their Customer Type is different. This lets you segment accounts more effectively inside your CRM. You can add new customers, manage billing and service details, and apply account-specific settings all from one place.

Step 1: Create a New Customer

  1. Click the + NEW button in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Customer.

  3. Enter the customer’s name, contact information, and billing address.

Important: The billing address is only used for invoices and estimates. To add a service address for scheduling visits, you’ll need to create a Property after the customer is created.

Step 2: Configure Account Settings

When creating a customer, you can adjust account-specific preferences:

  • Tax Exempt: Mark a customer as tax exempt to remove taxes from invoices and estimates.

  • Discounts: Apply a default discount that will be automatically included on all estimates and invoices.

  • Notes: Save important notes on the customer profile.

    • Example: “This customer is a property manager; send all invoices via email to their accounting department.”

  • Late Fee Rules: Set up custom late fee policies (if available on your plan).

  • Auto-Send Invoices: Enable automatic sending of invoices for this customer (if supported on your plan).

Step 3: Save the Customer

  • Once all details are entered, click Save Customer in the bottom-right corner.

  • After saving, you can add Properties for service addresses, schedule visits, and begin sending estimates or invoices.
