Learn how Homeworks handles failed subscription payments, expiring cards, grace periods, and account recovery.

Overview

Homeworks includes built-in billing recovery flows to help prevent interruptions to your membership. If your payment method is about to expire or a subscription payment fails, the app will notify you and guide you through the next steps.

The system is designed to give you time to resolve billing issues before access to paid features is affected.

Card Expiration Warnings

If the card on file is expected to expire before your next subscription invoice, Homeworks will display an in-app warning banner.

You may see warnings:

  • 30 days before the card expires

  • 7 days before the card expires

From the banner, you can quickly update your payment method without navigating through billing settings.

💡 Expiration warnings are shown before a payment fails so you have time to replace the card on file.

Failed Subscription Payments

If a subscription payment cannot be processed, Homeworks will notify you inside the app.

Common reasons include:

  • Insufficient funds

  • An expired card

  • A declined transaction

  • Bank fraud prevention blocks

When a payment fails, you can:

  1. Update your payment method

  2. Resolve the issue with your bank

  3. Click Retry Payment to attempt the charge again

Once the payment succeeds, your account returns to normal automatically.

Grace Period After a Failed Payment

After a failed subscription payment, your account enters a 10-day grace period.

During this time:

  • You continue to have full access to your account

  • Billing warning messages remain visible in the app

  • You can retry payment at any time

⚠️ The grace period begins immediately after the failed payment attempt.

What Happens After the Grace Period

If payment is not successfully collected within 10 days, Homeworks will show an account expiration page.

From this page, you can:

  • Update your payment method

  • Select a different membership plan

  • Downgrade to the free plan, if available

This recovery flow is intended to prevent unexpected account lockouts and provide a clear path to restore access.

Best Practices for Avoiding Billing Interruptions

To avoid interruptions to your membership:

  • Keep your card information up to date

  • Replace expiring cards before renewal dates

  • Monitor billing warnings shown in the app

  • Retry failed payments as soon as the issue is resolved

⭐️ Most billing issues can be resolved immediately by updating the card on file and retrying the payment.
